Employment Background: Sgt Brewer has been employed for 23 years with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD); the first 10 years were spent as a Patrol officer working all Districts of the City of Vancouver. Assignments included Vice Squad, Prostitution Task Forces and the Jail Annex. In 1997 he was assigned to the Communications Section and for 2 years was Chief Dispatcher working with a multitude of radios and computer systems. In 1999 Sgt Brewer became part of a Project Team to transition the Vancouver Police dispatch to a new state of the art 911 centre called E-comm, a quasi government agency which now provides Police, Fire and Ambulance all Voice, Data and Records Managements systems for Southwest British Columbia. In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in 2001 was seconded to the PRIME BC Records Management Project. There he was involved in training, testing and design of the Versaterm Versadex Records Management System for the Lower Mainland British Columbia. He was responsible for the testing; selection and eventual procurement of all user equipment and hardware related to the mobile computing and radio projects. He has become the departments leading expert on Police vehicle voice and data hardware and ergonomics, mobile computers, digital radio systems, and wireless data systems. In 2004 he was assigned to the position of Fleet Manager and was responsible for the VPD's fleet of 500 vehicles. He often consults with Police Agencies during the design of their computing projects. He has given numerous mobile computing presentations at international conferences like IACP LEIM throughout the U.S. and Canada and worked closely with police equipment vendors on the design of their products. This expertise in mobile computing systems has allowed Sgt Brewer to become a regular contributing writer for publications such as Law & Order, Police Fleet Manager, and Public Safety I.T. Magazines. Currently Sgt Brewer is working as a Patrol Supervisor responsible for a team of 11 officers deployed in the largest Patrol District in the City of Vancouver.
Educational Background: Brad has a certificate in Criminology along with numerous Management Courses at Dalhousie University, City of Vancouver and BC Institute of Technology.
Hobbies/Special Interests: In his off time he likes to weight lift, run and golf. He also helps coach his 8 year old daughters' soccer team.
