Employment Background: James started with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department in May of 1972 in the Sheriff’s Reserve. He was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff full time in 1975, serving as a Jailer and Emergency Radio Dispatcher, followed by Patrol Deputy Sheriff for nine years. He then served for four years as Investigator/Detective followed by five years as the Emergency Management Director. Since 2001, James has served as the Chief Deputy Sheriff/Undersheriff.
Educational Background: James attended the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, California State University at Long Beach, Cerrito College of Norwalk, California, and Fox River Valley Technical College at Appleton, Wisconsin. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration and an A.A. in Mortuary Science. He is a Licensed Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin and has instructed courses in advanced homicide investigation, incident command and emergency operations.
Hobbies/Special Interests: James enjoys an occasional game of golf and cooking.
