Employment Background: Vartan has been in the automotive industry for over 34 years. He started out as an automotive mechanic in the private sector before he joined the LAPD. He has been with the LAPD over 28 years and worked his way up through the ranks from Auto Mechanic to the Director of Police Transportation. He oversees all aspects of LAPDs fleet operations including, but not limited to, selecting, purchasing, maintaining, outfitting, and retiring all fleet assets. Vartan is also in charge of the LAPDs Communications Division and Records and Identification Division. These three Divisions report to him functionally since he was promoted to Police Administrator II in January, 2015.

For a short period of time, between 2006 and 2008, Vartan was in charge of the Los Angeles World Airport's (LAX) Fleet Operations, then was called back to LAPD.
Educational Background: Vartan's educational background includes an Associate in Science Degree in Auto Mechanics from Los Angeles Trade Technical College. Associate in Arts Degree in business Management from Los Angeles Valley College, and Bachelor's Degree in business Finance and Management Degree from State of California University in Northridge.
Hobbies/Special Interests: Vartan likes to ride road bicycles and loves wine tasting.
