The purpose of this manual is to provide some advance insight into 2000 model year Ford Truck product features that may assist final stage manufacturers, and vehicle alterers, in preparing their production process.

This manual is for reference only, reflecting information available as of August, 1999, and is subject to change without notice. It should be used in conjunction with other related Ford publications listed below. Methods to obtain these and other useful publications are described further in this manual.

Responsible for qualifying the engineering process control capability of final stage
manufacturers under these programs:

F-150 (under-8500 lb. GVWR)

Model & Trim

  • F250LD models canceled and replaced by F-150 7700 lb. Payload Group (V8). The 7700 lb.
    Payload Group (V8) available with 138.5"/138.8" WB Regular Cab and SuperCab and
    includes 7700-lb. GVWR and heavier duty components similar to 1999 F-250 models.
  • Four-door SuperCrew model, with shortened pickup box added (Job #1 12/13/1999).
  • Harley Davidson model added (Job #1 12/6/99).
  • Lariat trim is not available with Regular Cab (Available with SuperCab only).

Powertrain/Chassis

  • Power increases for 5.4L NGV and Bi-Fuel Prep engine applications.
  • Coil-on-plug ignition added to 4.6L V-8.
  • Chromed Steel Wheels and 17 OWL tires standard with 4x2/4x4 Lariat.
  • Aluminum Wheels included with Off-Road Equipment Group.
  • Spare tire winch redesigned.
  • Snow Plow Prep Package canceled. However, F-150 4x4 Regular and SuperCab models remain snowplow-capable by ordering with 7700 lb. Payload Group (V8).
  • Tire usage revised.

Exterior

  • Two new exterior colors: Chestnut replaces Dark Toreador, Island Blue replaces Teal which
    was canceled 12/7/98.
  • New "4x4" decal standard on 4x4 models.
  • Cargo lamp removed from Convenience Group and made standard on all models.
  • New "scalp" signal power mirrors standard with Lariat (signal feature moved from glass
    surface to mirror housing).
  • New driver's side door key pad entry feature standard with Lariat.

Interior

  • One new interior color: Medium Parchment replaces Medium Prairie Tan.
  • New driver's side A-pillar grab handle standard on all models.
  • New wider/long cloth sun visors for use on models without overhead console. New
    wider/short cloth sun visors for use on models with overhead console. Vinyl visor canceled.
  • Instrument panel revised to provide redesigned cup holder/ash cup. Storage bin below
    steering wheel deleted.
  • Steering wheels include Ford oval badge in place of molded Ford oval (Late 1999 MY running
    change).
  • Magnesium seat risers replaced by steel on front bench seats.
  • SuperCab new "flip-up" rear seat is standard. Includes new foam/trim set, structure/risers
    and floor-mounted seat belts (previously seat-mounted).
  • New carpeted floor mats, standard with XLT.
  • Front floor console cup holder size revised (Included with Captain's Chairs).
  • XL and XLT Sport Packages available in Dark Graphite interior color only and includes new
    black leather-wrapped steering wheel and unique cloth-trimmed 40/60 split bench.
  • New overhead console includes compass, outside temperature display and two storage bins.
    Standard with XLT, Lariat and optional as part of Convenience Group with XL.
  • "Aromatic" G-grain leather utilized on Lariat leather seats.
  • New seat-integrated seat belts included on SuperCab models with 40/60 split bench seat or
    Captains Chairs (Mid 2000 MY change).
  • Adjustable pedals available as an option (Mid 2000 MY change).

Super Duty F-Series
(Over-8500 lb. GVWR - F250/350/450/550)

Model

  • New F-350 DRW Crew Cab Lariat LE.
  • New 19,000 lb. GVWR available with F550 4x2 Regular Cab 164.8" WB (84" CA) Chassis Cab
    (Late 2000 MY availability).
  • New F450/550 4x2/4x4 188.8" WB (108" CA) Regular Cab Chassis Cab, and 200.2" WB
    (84" CA) Crew Chassis Cab (Late 2000 MY availability).

Powertrain/Chassis

  • Power increases for 5.4L V-8 and 6.8L V-10 gas engine applications.
  • 7.3L Diesel Cold Weather Package Delete option no longer available.
  • 78 amp-hr battery replaces 72 amp-hr battery as standard.
  • Dual alternators now available as a separate option on models with 7.3L Diesel.
  • 4R100 automatic transmission quality upgrades with 6.8L V-10 engine
    (modulated lockup, 2-plate torque converter clutch, adaptive clutch capacity).
  • RPO PTO provision available with Lariat (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Offer RPO 3.73 Limited Slip rear axle on F-250 Pickup/Box Delete Models with 6.8L engine
    (excluding California manual transmission) (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Offer RPO 4.88 and 5.38 Limited Slip rear axles on F-450-550 models
    (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Delete steering damper as standard on F-350 4x2 DRW models
    ( Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Maximum Front GAWR is now available as an option.
  • 4-Wheel ABS standard on Lariat models below 10,000 lb. GVWR.
  • Chassis Cab 36 gallon fuel tank increased to 40 gallons.
  • New 23 gallon auxiliary right hand frame side saddle mounted fuel tank available on select
    DRW Chassis Cab models with 19 gallon midship fuel tank and 7.3L V8 DI Turbo Diesel
    engine (10/1/99 availability).
  • Front tow hooks are now standard on all models.
  • Ambulance Prep Package is now available with all Chassis Cab models and trim levels.
  • Deluxe polished bright aluminum wheels available with Lariat (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Spare wheel and tire with under-frame carrier standard on Pickup models with pickup box
    (remains optional with Pickup Box Delete). Under-frame carrier includes new lock.
  • 7-pin connector included on pickup box models with Trailer Tow Prep Package
    (Available 9/19/99).
  • Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Prep Package provides GCWR up to 30,000 lb. on select F550's
    (Available 12/20/99). Includes synthetic rear axle lubricant and radiator with in-tank cooler.
  • 19.5" x 6" Polished Aluminum Wheels optional with F450/550 models
    (Available January, 2000).

Exterior

  • Two new exterior colors: Harvest Gold replaces Light Prairie Tan, Dark Teal replaces
    Dark Tourmaline.
  • Rear step bumper is now standard on all pickup models (Platinum with XL and chrome
    with XLT and Lariat). Delete rear step bumper is available as an option.
  • New manual (standard Chassis Cab) or power manual telescoping mirrors. Manually
    telescopes 40mm on either side of previous mirrors' fixed position; optional with
    Pickup or Box Delete models (Late 9/19/99 availability).
  • Chrome rear step bumper available with XL trim (requires XL Decor Group)
    (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Sunshade band on top of windshield deleted from XL and XLT (retained on Lariat)
    (Late 1999 MY running change).

Interior

  • Two new interior colors: Medium Parchment replaces Medium Prairie Tan, Dark Denim
    replaces Denim.
  • New floor pan improves front passenger foot room on models with automatic transmission.
  • Steering wheels include Ford oval badge in place of molded Ford oval
    (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Lariat overhead console average fuel economy display replaced by outside temperature
    display (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • On the XLT door trim panel, delete the carpet on the lower map pocket (new surface to be
    oval scuff grain) and make map pocket back plate black (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Lariat upgrades include wood grain appliqués on door trim panels and new floor mats with
    "Lariat" logo.
  • New bucket seats (no armrest or lumbar adjustment) available as an option on XL in heavy
    duty vinyl, heavy duty knitted vinyl or heavy duty cloth.
  • 40/20/40 bench seat/captains chairs revisions: Carpet map pocket replaces mesh map
    pocket on Lariat, 10 oz. carpet replaces vinyl on back of Lariat headrest, 10 oz. seat carpet
    replaces 14 oz. seat carpet where applicable (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • New fold-up rear bench seat optional on SuperCab; deletes the upper rear seat bolster.
  • Passenger side lumbar adjustment deleted from 40/20/40 bench seats and Captains Chairs
    (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Crew Cab includes new seat belt mini-retractors.
  • Modular behind seat storage arrangement on XLT revised to replace long, floor-mounted
    utility tray with shorter Crew Cab tray (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • Power windows and door locks are now standard with XLT.
  • Floor mat in-lieu-of carpet option available with Lariat trim (Late 1999 MY running change).
  • AM/FM stereo radio is now standard with XL (Radio delete canceled). Premium dual media
    radio option available with XL trim (Late 1999 MY running change).

  • F650 and F750 Model designations available in various 4x2 wheelbase combinations in Regular Cab/SuperCab and Crew Cab configurations.

  • North American 26,000 lb. GVWR available in 158/182/194/230/260 in.wheelbases, 30,000
    lb. GVWR in 179/215/260 wheelbases, and 33,000 lb. GVWR in 194/230/260 in. wheelbases,
    with all builds in Cuatitlan, Mexico.
  • Available in seven exterior colors: School Bus Yellow, Oxford White, Dark Toreador Red,
    Bright Silver Metallic, Chesapeake Blue, Jewel Green Metallic and Bright Red; and one
    interior color: Medium Graphite.
  • Cloth sun visors with mirrors deleted and replaced with vinyl sun visors without mirrors.
  • National Hi-back Easy-Aire XLT driver seat replaces the Lo-back Easy-Aire XLT driver seat.
  • National Mid-Back recliner XL Cloth Driver Seat and available Cloth seating with XL/XLT trim.
  • "F-Series" vehicle badging deleted and replaced with "F-650 Super Duty/F-750 Super Duty"
    vehicle badges with XL and XLT callouts.
  • Deleted floor mounted utility trays from the XL trim.
  • Polypropylene Substrate Instrument Panel (Job 1, Dec. 99).

Chassis Features

  • F650 Lo-Profile chassis added for 26,000 lb. GVWR (February, 2000).
  • F750 9.5" frame reinforcement added for 33,000 lb. GVWR (February, 2000).
  • Available Rockwell 23,000 lb. Rear axle.
  • Available 7.3L Navistar diesel engine, 3126 Electronic Caterpillar (standard F750)
    and standard 5.9L ISB Cummins (F650) diesel engines.
  • Eaton FS-4205A/5306A/6306A 6-Spd./Spicer ES52-7B and ES066-7B 7-Spd manual
    transmissions, and Allison and MD-3050/3060/3066 (late availability)/35604, 5 and 6-speed
    automatic transmissions available.
  • Chamber air brake parking brake: MGM deleted and Maxi added.
  • 80KSI, 15.9 SM, 9.5" frame deleted and 110 KSI, 15.9 SM, 9.5: frame added.
  • Fuel water separator-unheated is standard on all CAT engines.
  • Available driveline U-joint sizes are 1550/1590/1610/1710.
  • The SOLO 14 in. 1-plate self-adjusting ceramic clutch is standard.
  • 7.3L Navistar diesel engines available with 5, 6 and 7-speed manual transmissions.
  • 7.3L Navistar diesel engines available with 4-speed automatic transmission.
  • 3126B Cat engine (300 HP) available with Allison MD-3066 automatic transmission.
    Included with Super Crewzer Prep Package.
  • 5.9L ISB Cummins 210 HP engine with Allison 4-speed automatic transmission.

  • The Heavy Duty 70/115 Amp. Alternator is now standard.

  • The Class I Trailer Tow Package is now standard on all Wagons.
  • Frame-mounted hitch receiver now included with optional Class II/III/IV
    Trailer Tow Package.

Auxiliary Idle Control Modules

(7.3L DIT Diesel Engine Only)

Description

Two new "throttle kicker" modules replace the previous Auxiliary Powertrain Control Module. The "Full Function" APCM is a stand-alone option, Option Code 96P, replacing Option Code 961. The added functions and features are described below. A "Limited Function" APCM is included in Ambulance Prep Package, cannot be ordered separately, and its primary function is battery charge-protection. These were introduced into production as follows:

Super Duty F-Series:
February 1, 1999 E-Series: April 1, 1999

Engine Idle Speed or RPM Control Feature

  • Idle speed can be manually adjusted from in-cab or remote location.
  • Programmable:
    • For automatic operation.
    • 4 preset engine speeds; each re-programmable.
    • PTO over-speed limit protection.
      • Minimum PTO engagement speed

Charge Protection Feature

  • Used for maintaining battery charge during continuous high electrical demand.
  • Activation:
    • Can be programmed to activate at vehicle engine start-up.
    • Can be activated in-cab or at remote location.

Application

  • 7.3L diesel engine usage only.
  • Intended for stationary use.
  • Remote control capable using an extendible pigtail wire with a 5V signal. The module's wire
    harness should not be extended in length.
  • The module is water-resistant but not water-proof. Intended for mounting in a dry location.
  • Can be used on earlier model light trucks back to and including 1995 model year.
  • Can interface with PTO, but does not require a PTO-provisioned transmission.

  • Auxiliary Idle Control Module (i.e. APCM or Auxiliary Powertrain Control Module)
  • Mounting bracket with hardware
  • Wiring harness including pigtails

Ford Truck Body Builders Layout Book

Obtain by faxing written request to (734) 414-2971 in U.S. , (905) 670-1798 in Canada. Include the year and model along with your street mailing address (no PO Box). Also note whether you want the book or the CD. The first copy is free.

The September, 1998 printing will include all 1999 model year light trucks. For 1998 and 1999 model year F800, and heavy trucks, refer to the 1997 Ford Truck Body Builders Layout Book. A separate book will be available for Super Duty F650/750 approximately December, 1998.

Incomplete Vehicle Manual

To obtain a generic copy, fax your request to the Ford Truck Body Builders Advisory Service, fax number: (313) 594-2633. Include complete name and mailing address.

If the original IVM that normally comes with the chassis is missing, have your Ford dealer process a "misbuild claim" with the Ford Vehicle Order Processing Center to obtain a replacement.

Ford Recreation Vehicle And Trailer Towing Guide

The guide covers cars and light trucks, and includes trailer and camper weight ratings and the list of vehicles suitable for flat-towing. A copy can be obtained by contacting the Ford RV Information Service at (800) 245-7343, or faxing to (248) 936-3300.

Service Publications

The "Ford Technical Publications Catalog" lists the service publications available, and includes pricing, an order form, and a mailer. Contact Helm, Inc. on 1-800-782-4356.

Useful publications include "Truck Wiring Diagrams" and the "Service Specifications" book. "Truck Wiring Diagrams" is the new name for "Electrical & Vacuum Trouble Shooting Manual" or (EVTM).
